Forgiveness: A Core Challenge on the Spiritual Journey with Lynn Huber

Lynn HuberTopic   Forgiveness is crucial to our growing into spiritual wholeness, yet many misconceptions about it can keep us carrying unforgiveness for years. We unpacked issues of forgiveness vs. reconciliation, and forgiveness as a matter of the will. There was experiential work, as well as lecture and dialog. This workshop is designed to allow us to explore implications for our own journeys and to look at ways to engage those whom we companion in their own forgiveness processes.

Presenter   Lynn W. Huber, Ph.D., MSW is a spiritual director, educator, author, peace activist and retreat leader. Lynn believes forgiveness is a central issue both on our interior journey, and for our capacity to work in the world for peace and justice.

A New Harmony—the Spirit, the Earth, and the Human Soul

John Phillip Newell, Denver, 2011John Philip Newell, a poet, scholar, and teacher, is internationally acclaimed for his work in the field of Celtic spirituality, with best-known titles Listening for the Heartbeat of God and Christ of the Celts. Formerly Warden of Iona Abbey in the Western Isles of Scotland, he is currently Companion Theologian for the American Spirituality Centre of Casa del Sol in the high desert of New Mexico. Brad Berglund, well-known contemplative and Celtic musician, is the conference musician and liturgist.

Like never before in the history of humanity we are aware of the essential unity of life and that what we do to a part we do to the whole.  Wellness is found not in separation but in relationship, whether as nations and wisdom traditions, as individuals, or as a whole earth community. How can our spirituality today, including our spiritual practices, be part of serving this new consciousness?

The 2011 Spirituality Conference was a weekend of inspiration, silence, discussion, and discovery. John Phillip's talks were entitled "The Ancient Harmony," "The Broken Harmony," and "The New Harmony." Click on broadlandsmedia.com to order CDs of all three talks.

MacrinaScott.jpgTopic People who come for spiritual guidance have received from our culture a gloomy picture of aging. The spiritual director has the opportunity to model and communicate a different vision. Aging is a call to adventure, a time for new kinds of spiritual growth and roles as elder in family, church and society. We will reflect on the vision of Rabbi Zalman Schachter-Shalomi and share our own experiences of companioning persons through the journey into elderhood.

Presenter Macrina Scott, OSF, is a Franciscan sister, former director of a program of adult biblical education for the archdiocese of Denver, author and retreat director. Discovering and Following Your Sacred Path — with Lauren Artress
    The 2010 Colorado Spirituality Conference

Our theme  We live in a time when the traditional religious containers are losing their attraction. Belief is being replaced by a hunger for direct experience, inner wisdom is valued over external authority and an awareness of a global spirituality is opening up closed belief systems. Amidst this paradigm shift the hope of finding our way to spiritual nourishment, let alone guiding others, can be a challenge. The metaphor of the Path is emerging rapidly in our consciousness. It is a universal symbol that may have the power to knit together the seeking mind and the longing heart.

Our conference speaker  The Reverend Dr. Lauren Artress, pioneer of the contemporary worldwide labyrinth movement, is Canon of Grace Cathedral in San Francisco. She is the author of Walking a Sacred Path: Rediscovering the Labyrinth as a Spiritual Practice, The Sand Labyrinth Kit and The Sacred Path Companion: A Guide to Walking the Labyrinth to Heal and Transform (Putnam/Riverhead Books, New York). Dr. Artress is Founder of Veriditas, a nonprofit organization that introduces people to the healing and meditative powers of the labyrinth. She travels worldwide offering workshops and lectures, including a yearly program in Chartres, France. Dr. Artress—Episcopal priest, spiritual director, and licensed marriage and family therapist (California)—is on the Editorial Board of Presence, the quarterly journal of Spiritual Directors International.
