Continuing Education for Spiritual Directors

Wednesday, May 19, 2010, 4–6:15 p.m. (3:30–4 p.m. — check-in, fellowship and refreshments. Cost: $15 to $30, as you are able.)

Topic  People who come for spiritual guidance have received from our culture a gloomy picture of aging. The spiritual director has the opportunity to model and communicate a different vision. Aging is a call to adventure, a time for new kinds of spiritual growth and roles as elder in family, church and society. We will reflect on the vision of Rabbi Zalman Schachter-Shalomi and share our own experiences of companioning persons through the journey into elderhood.
 
Presenter Macrina Scott, OSF, is a Franciscan sister, former director of a program of adult biblical education for the archdiocese of Denver, author and retreat director. She has been trained by Rabbi Zalman Schachter-Shalomi's Spiritual Eldering Institute to facilitate programs on spiritual growth in the later years. She directs Wisdom Center, which offers a year-long program as well as shorter events for individuals of all faith traditions who choose to age consciously.

  • Place:  St. John’s Cathedral, 1350 Washington Street (at 14th and Clarkson). Parking is available: off Washington St southbound between 14th and 13th Avenues; off Clarkson St northbound between Colfax and 14th Avenues; and on nearby streets.
  • Cost:  $15 to $35, as you are able. Those who can give more support SDCO scholarships.
