Wednesday, August 20, 4–6:15 p.m. — Writing as a Tool for Spiritual Companioning
(Check-in, fellowship, refreshments 3:30–4 p.m.)
Bring your struggles in spiritual guidance, teaching, preaching, counseling, healing, and parenting—any form of helping vocations. Find grace through your fingertips in relationships and tasks. Through simple exercises, we will explore twin dimensions of writing: the tide of contemplation (self-discovery) and the tide of communication (relating to others)—with a spiritual spin in formal presentations or informal notes. The leader will draw from scripture, films, and participants' experiences, using his book Writing Tides (available at local bookstores, online, or at the event).

Presenter: Kent Ira Groff, retreat leader, spiritual companion, author, and founding mentor of Oasis Ministries for Spiritual Development. Click for details or a flyer “08-08_KGroffWritingAsTool.rtf.”

Friday and Saturday, Oct 17–18, 2008 and April 24–25, 2009 — Leading Contemplative Gatherings with Kent Ira Groff
How can we create a safe environment for seasoned believers and youthful seekers to recount their sacred stories and find direction? If you feel called to lead spiritual retreats or short-term groups, this experience will provide skills for creating a contemplative ethos in limited time and for mining participant's gifts. As we model this meditative atmosphere, you will experience ways to build community, balance presentations with silence and conversation, and to incorporate prayer with music, movement, films, and art. Designing an event prepares leader's own heart and mind; out of this awareness of gifts and vulnerabilities the leader prepares the event. Click for details and an application form.
