We cannot help but notice the injustice, conflict, and violence around us - in our families, our communities, our nation, and our world. How are we to respond? Is there a way to bring hope into places of oppression and diasaster? Is there a way to bring light into the darkness?

Praying for justice and peace is one response to the situations in the world, and it is available to everyone. But many of us are unsure how to pray and what to pray for.

This one month online retreat with Rev. Jane Venaard will help us explore those questions.

Walk a Mile in My Moccasins with Linda Cornier

Wed, Feb 15, ’12, 4–6:15 p.m. (networking, fellowship, and refreshments, 3:30–4 p.m.) Cost: $15 to $35, as you are able)

Topic    Listening is the beginning of serving others. A mile begins with a step. Stepping into someone’s journey requires other-focused listening. There is strength in silence. Westerners are awed when someone is articulate; listening is equally important. Experience Native American listening techniques: Spiritual directing/Traditional healing is like open heart/mind surgery. This might entail finding solutions, giving food, a plant, root, or herb from mother earth; dancing, singing, praying, fasting or becoming a mirror for others. Telling stories can help others make decisions for themselves. We conclude with praying the four directions.

Presenter  I am Linda Cornier, a Pojoaque Pueblo and Hunka sister of the Lakota Nation. My name is Cante I Wan Kab Wi (Above Heart Woman). I have a BS in Psychology and Behavioral Science, an MA in Religious Education, and an MPA (Masters in Public Administration) from University of Colorado. I am completing a Doctorate in Ministry from Unification Theological Seminary. I have worked at Denver Indian Center, Denver Indian Health and Family Services, National Native American HIV/AIDS Prevention Center and am currently working at Native American Cancer Research. I am a mother and grandmother.
